Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Erectile Dysfunction (ED), sometimes known as impotence, is the persistent difficulty in getting or maintaining an erection firm enough for sexual activity.

It is very common, especially in men over 40, but it can affect men of all ages.

Experiencing ED occasionally is not unusual, but if it becomes ongoing, it can affect confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

Causes can include:

-Physical health problems (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, or hormonal imbalances).

-Psychological factors (stress, anxiety, depression), lifestyle habits (smoking, alcohol, lack of exercise), or side effects of certain medications.

Help is available, and treatment is very effective in most cases.

Treatment Options may include:

- Lifestyle changes,

- Talking therapies,

- Medication such as sildenafil (Viagra), or medical devices.

Support from a healthcare professional is important in identifying underlying causes and tailoring treatment to the individual.

How common is ED?

It is estimated that around 1 in 5 men experience erectile difficulties at some stage in their lives, making it one of the most common sexual health concerns.
