Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a condition that affects circulation (blood flow). It involves the nervous system and is characterized by the body’s inability to properly regulate blood pressure and heart rate when moving from lying down to standing up. People with POTS often experience dizziness, fainting, rapid heartbeat, fatigue, and brain fog.
Living with POTS can be extremely challenging. Everyday tasks such as standing in line, showering, or even walking short distances may trigger symptoms. Many people with POTS need to carefully pace their activities, increase fluid and salt intake, and wear compression garments to help manage symptoms. Emotional wellbeing is also deeply affected, as fatigue and dizziness can feel unpredictable and overwhelming.

Management often involves lifestyle adjustments, physiotherapy, increasing fluids and salt, and sometimes medications prescribed by a healthcare provider. Support groups and specialist organisations can be a lifeline for understanding, coping strategies, and advocacy.
