Premature Ejaculation
Premature Ejaculation (PE)
Premature ejaculation is one of the most common sexual health concerns for men. It happens when ejaculation occurs sooner than a person or their partner would like, often with little control. Studies suggest that as many as 1 in 3 men experience PE at some point in their lives, so it’s much more common than most people realise.
Causes-
-Psychological: anxiety, stress, depression, relationship worries.
- Physical: hormone imbalance, inflammation of the prostate or urethra, genetic factors.
- Lifestyle: lack of sleep, high alcohol use, or poor general health can make it worse.
Treatment & Support
The good news is that PE is treatable. Options may include:
- Behavioural techniques (e.g., the “stop-start” or “squeeze” methods).
- Counselling or therapy for underlying stress or relationship issues.
- Medication (available through a GP if appropriate).
- Open communication with a partner, which can help reduce performance pressure.
Why it’s important to seek help
Premature ejaculation does not mean there’s something “wrong” with you — it’s a recognised medical concern that affects many men. Getting help can improve not just sexual health but also confidence and emotional wellbeing.
